Step by Step Progression of Artwork
I received a request to record how a simple pencil sketch becomes a finished piece. Currently I have several pieces in production and will post images as they develop into the finished product. I hope you enjoy watching the progression from messy original sketches to completed paintings.
As a start, I especially liked how this simple sketch was eventually transformed into a finished piece. The original image was drawn sometime in 2002 and sat in my portfolio for a long time, until I needed an image for a second grade art project at my parish. The piece is rather small at 2"x3". The image was transferred using a large grid and pencil to a canvas measuring 4'x6'. Next, I masked off various sections at a time and had roughly sixty second grade students sponge paint small areas. If you look closely you will see some of the sponges were even cross shaped. The best part was watching the children show off the sections they painted to Mom and Dad after Mass.
